DUTIES:
- Administer & interpret all classification rules of the Pennsylvania and Delaware Manuals in order to properly classify employers
- Analyze detailed file information on employers’ businesses to determine the appropriate classification(s) and assignment of employees to specific authorized classification(s)
- Respond in a timely manner to written correspondence and telephone inquiries, both external and internal
- Explain and defend classification decisions to involved parties
- Consult with management before issuing decisions that significantly increase or decrease premium
- Issue questionnaires and/or surveys to develop information needed to classify employers
- Verify classifications listed on Delaware Assigned Risk applications
- Complete online data card maintenance and submit class-master entries
- Save newly created file documents to PCRB Imaging System
- Modify scanned documents, correspondence and e-mail saved to PCRB Imaging System
- Create PDF files and send correspondence to outside parties electronically whenever possible
- Research issues pertaining to classification assignments using Internet, departmental and/or outside reference sources as warranted
- Work independently, with the ability to adapt to various situations on a daily basis
- Timely and consistent attendance
- Contribute to the classification studies effort as needed and directed
- Periodically accompany field staff on survey and/or test audit assignments
- Perform classification reviews in conjunction with Test Audit Program
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as requested
SPECIAL SKILLS OR QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor degree required or equivalent work experience. Insurance course work a plus
- No experience required – insurance industry experience a plus, with experience in the workers compensation line most advantageous. 0-3 years’ experience in office setting
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, decision making and written communication skills with the ability to work independently and adapt to various situations including communicating classification assignments which differ from determinations which the employer believes to be required under prevailing rules and procedures
- Requires sophisticated communication skills with the ability to convey decisions and viewpoints in a constructive and informative manner
- Employee must possess the ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize tasks accordingly
- Strict attention to detail and accuracy is required. PC proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Communicate effectively with all levels of PCRB/DCRB personnel and outside contacts
